-read books about Jesus
-I printed a picture of Jesus with some children; we painted them using some new glitter paint; glued them on a sheet of foam
-made Jellyfish, using plastic disposable cup (cut short) coffee filters, yard, and tissue streamers (I cut my tentacles out of gift wrap tissue paper, since I didn't have streamers; have the kids color on the coffee filter, then spray then with a water bottle and see the colors bleed; I used duct tape to attach a string to the top, and cut a whole in the middle of the coffee filter and ran the filter through the string, down over the cup; the kids colored the tentacles and we attached them to the cup with tape
-could do an exercise with Jelly beans (color sorting?)
-could read Jamberry book, and eat Jam/berries
-we ate Jello for our snack

Letter I

"I can do all things through Christ, who gives me strength." Phil 4:13

-read Insect books
-play with plastic bugs, even sort them by color
-excavate toys from an Ice block- the night before, gather small toys and freeze them in a Tupperware filled with water; the next day, dump the ice block out of the Tupperware, let the kids excavate the toys using a squirt bottle with warm water and a blunt knife- quite fun!
-go Ice skating- slide across the carpet by standing on sheets of wax paper- really fun!
-snack: eat ice cream
-make ice cream cones, using 1/3 glue to 2/3 shaving cream, cutting cone out of construction paper and adding real sprinkles to the foam mixture
could also make an I Spy bottle:

Before you begin, make a list of the trinkets or items you are putting in there- culd even be on the "I Spy" bottle label you're going to make; Fill empty water bottle with rice (using a paper funnel); super glue the lid closed; glue on your label- ready for I spy! For non-readers, you could even take a photo of your items laid out, an then they find the items as seen in the picture

H

"Happy is he who keeps God's laws." Prov 29:18

-read "the Very Hungry Caterpillar" make caterpillars using handprints
-talk about Healthy Foods- make a food groups plate; print blank plate from choosemyplate.gov, color each section, talk about foods that will fit into each section as you color, point out that most of the plate is filled with fruits and vegetables, using plastic food or food cut out of magazines, place the food on the plate by type; try to fix lunch according to the plate!
-make a silly Hat, read books about hats, try on hats
-Halloween activity, if it's October- I know some families are opposed to doing Halloween activities:) read Halloween books; make ghost- wrap toilet paper roll in toilet paper, glue streamers of toilet paper dangling down; draw on eyes and mouth

Letter G

G

"God is our refuge and strength." Ps 46:1

-draw grapes on paper, glue on grapes using wadded purple tissue paper
-if Christmas, read the Gingerbread Man, make gingerbread men cut out of sandpaper, glue raisins for eyes and buttons on chest
- drink Grape juice
-eat Goldfish
-do something with Glitter
-do a Garden activity- plant seeds to grow a mini garden

Letter F

F

"He forgives all my sins." Ps 103:3
or for Christmas, "For unto us a Child is born."

- Frog footprint art
-read book "The Rainbow Fish", draw a rainbow fish, let them color, glue scales on made out of foil
-firetrucks/fire safety; let kids wear fire hats, if you have them; draw flames on driveway out of chalk, let the kids put out the fires with the garden hose (if doing this in fall season, fire safety week is in Oct)
-do a Fall leaf craft, talk about the fall season

Letter E

E

"Let Everything that has breath praise the Lord." Ps 150:6
or "Every promise of God is true; He protects everyone who runs to Him for help." Prov 30:5

-Since it was Christmas for us, we made Elves, and put the kids' faces on them
-make an Earth- cut out a large circle of blue construction paper, let the kids make green land finger paint style, using mix of 1/2 shave cream, 1/2 glue, with green paint added for color
-make the letter E out of popsicle sticks, glue to paper, and embellish as you want
-Ears:
play "Guess the Sound" (close eyes, make different noises and see if they can guess them (water dripping, whistle, phone buttons, timer, crinkling paper, shaking food box, ect...)
play "Listen carefully" set an egg timer for 5 minutes, hide it, let the kids listen carefully and try to find it- it will ring if they can't find it
-Exercise! try a new kind with the kids
-snack idea: fill Easter Eggs with goldfish, go on an egg hunt around the house

Letter D

D

"Do everything without complaining or arguing." Phil 2:4
"Do to others as you would have them do to you." Luke 6:31

-Donkey craft- found donkey printable on DLTK website, called donkey paper craft
we added black yard for hair, and our own kind of straw
-could also do Dot art
-using dot garage sale type stickers, write letter "D" on stickers and then go on a search for thihgs that start with letter "D" and label those things with your D stickers
-play Dominoes
-Dinosaurs! gather small dinosaurs, freeze them in a cup of ice, let child be a paleontologist and give them squeeze/squirt bottles with warm water, even some "tools" and have them work to gewt the dinosaurs out
-could eat Doughnuts

Letter C

C

"God loves a Cheerful giver." 1 Cor 9:7 (it was Christmas time when we did this)
"Children, obey your parents in the Lord." Eph 6:1
"Create in me a pure heart, and renew a right spirit in me." Psalms 51:10
*this verse has the hard, typical "C" sound- the others, with "Ch" sound might be confusing for those learning phonics

-read Claude the Dog Christmas story
-read other Cchristmas books
- we made this present to open, eith a copied picture of Claude and Max inside- they embellished with glitter and foam stickers
-make cookies

If it's not Christmas for you, other ideas:
paint Clouds on blue construction paper (mix of 1/2 shave cream, 1/2 elmers glue- dries like puff paint)
car crafts (car wash with shaving cream and paint brushes and water squirter) (paint car wheel tracks, dip cars into paint, drive on paper) (draw parking spaces on a posterboard, like a parking lot, label different sections by color or car type, the kids sort the cars by color/make, nd park them in their correct spaces)
carrot craft:
draw a carrot on paper, or print a simple carrot shapee, get a real carrot, cut the tip off, using the blunt end (about the size od a dime or nickel) dip it into orange paint and stamp the carrot in paper; use the leafy end to dip in green paint, use as a brush to paint the leafy green end on the carrot picture)

Letter B

B

"Believe in the Lord Jesus." Acts 16:31

-Bubble painting (bubbles mixed with paint, we had a bubble pipe that we blew into, the bubbles poured onto the paper)
-gather teddy bears for a Bear picnic, eat Teddy Grahams
-eat Blueberries, read "Jammberry"
-read Bear Books (like "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?"
-make some water Balloons, do a water balloon toss outside
-make a Birdfeeder (peanut butter on pine cone, or string a pipe cleaner with cheerios, twist the end to keep them from falling off, loop the other free end around a tree branch

Letter A

A

"A gentle answer turns anger away." Prov 15:1

-Apple picture, tearing and gluing pieces of cardboard paper
-Letter A collage, cutting out toys that start with "A" from toy catalogs (save all those that come in the mail at Christmas, for future art projects!)
-drink Apple juice, eat Apples dipped in peanut butter for snack
-discuss the Alphabet; read "ChickaChickaBoomBoom"; make your own alphabet tree; if you have letter magnets, make a tree big enough for your fridge, and let the letter fall off the tree, like in the story
