The Letter U

-Read a book of opposites, some of which being the words Up and Under; we have Dinosaur Romp, so we read that one 

-Opposites Race Game: print opposite cards; I found this website on Preschool ABC blog: http://www.kizclub.com/opposites.htm

I cut apart the cards; we went over them and reviewed them; then I taped one word form each opposite set onto a door in our house; the kids stood on the other side of the room/down the hallway, I held the matches to the cards in my hand, standing across the room with the kids and called out each, one at a time; the kids had to run down, find the opposite match to the word I had called out, pull the card off the door, and run back to me with it

-Egg Hunt, hiding the eggs Up and Under: my kids love egg hunts-we fill the eggs with goldfish, raisins, fruit snack, fruit loops, ect...

-for older children, I had a United States puzzle, as well at a United States coloring book: I flagged the states we had recently traveled to, and were going to travel to soon, and had him color those and learn their facts

-make Umbrellas: using paper muffin cups; fletten them on a page and glue, make umbrella handles out of pipe cleaners, rain drops using blue glitter

The Letter T

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart." Proverbs 3:5

-Tools: play with tools, using a piece of Styrofoam or a empty cardboard box, let them hammer nails into it- I used think, large screws (little less dangerous)

-Ten Tree: make a tree on construciton paper, I used cut out my tree trunks using foam sheets; go outside and gather 10 leaves, glue them onto the branches of the tree

-Tooth experiment: eat oreos, have kids look at their teeth in the mirror and see how dirty they are; then have them eat apple, look at their teeth and see how the look cleaner

-brushing Teeth with paint: draw a mouth full of teeth on construction paper; make a mixture of half glue half shaving cream, let the kids "brush their teeth" using their fingers or a paint brush

-we have Tangram puzzles, s today was a good day to get those out and play with them

-Telling Time: find any books about time that you may have (we have one called Tick Tock Sharks)

-other "T" words you could do an activity or read books about: tools, trucks, trains, teddy bear, turtle, toes)

Letter S

 

 

 

 

 

The Letter S

"Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness." Matthew 6:33

-Science experiment: we made crystals, and the kids thought it was super cool- mix 1 cup hot water to 3 tbsp borax (food coloring optional;) bend pipe cleaners into shapes that will fit inside a glass jar or tupperware- the shape needs to be completely submersed in borax solution, and cannot touch the sides of the container; I uses dental floss or string to suspend the shapes in solution, hanging from a ball point pen suspended over the mouth of the jar; leave them overnight, do not tough; in the morning crystals will have formed, remove from solution, place on paper plate or paper towel and let dry

-Salt painting: put glue on paper in apretty design, I spread out the thin strip of glue, into more of a wider ribbon shape, using my finger or paint brush.  Sprinkle salt over the glue, completely covering the glue. Mix water and food coloring, paint over the salt- the salt will dissolve and colors will bleed some

-Stamp letters: I wrote an assorment of letters all over a page, including the letters of their names (each letter in their name 2-3 times on the page) then I called out the letters, or for an older child, called out the sound the lettermakes, and they located the letter on the page and stamped it

-Read "The Very Busy Spider" by Eric Carle, or any other spider book you may have

-make paper plate Spiders, using paper plates, pipe cleaners for legs, and googly eyes

-Shapes snack: find foods of various shapes ot eat for snack (fruit loop circles, pretzel sticks, cinamon toast crunch squares ect..  Or could make Smoothies or Smores.

-Other "S" ideas: snowman, sheep
